The bulwark walls, built in the 17th century, are a remarkable example of the first Dutch tradition of military architecture according to the Cultural Heritage. The Forte da Graça, a remarkable example of 18th century military architecture, is considered by many historians as one of the most powerful bulwark fortresses in the world.
